“The God of peace will be with you.” That is the promise in Philippians 4:9 to those who receive and do the things instructed in scripture. It is a prayer often offered to believers in Jesus, “Now the God of peace be with you all” (Romans 15:33). It is a title for our Lord God that acknowledges a wonderful truth about Him. He is The God of Peace.
Who is the one who will crush Satan under our feet? “The God of peace will crush Satan” (1 Corinthians 16:20). There is great calm and strength that comes with the awareness of this aspect of God. “Be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you” (2 Corinthians 13:11).
I love the Bible references calling our Lord the God of peace. (See also 1 Thessalonians 5:23 and Hebrews 13 20) We are reminded in 1 Corinthians 14:33 “For God is not the author of confusion but of peace.” Old Testament prophecy referred to Jesus as “The Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6). In Him we find peace. He is our peace. He is the source of our peace. He gives to us His peace.
What should this truth from God and about God mean to us? Does it make us feel more safe, more secure, more at ease? Does it make us feel more hopeful and less distressed? It should! Who is this one we are trusting and believing? Who is this one who is our Lord and king? He is the God of peace.
In a world filled with confusion, sin, destruction, madness, and all manner of craziness our attention must turn to the God of peace. And, we should remind others of this. Offer this prayer for them. May the God of peace be with you!
