God is good, all the time. His goodness is amazing! We experience His goodness in multiple ways. When I look at the story of Jesus birth, it reminds me of one of those ways. When God is at work to bring us to an understanding of His will for us, He always confirms His plan for us through various people and events. Mary is a great example of this.
Mary is given an enormously difficult role to swallow. An angel comes to her with this message. “You will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest.” (Luke 1:31-32).You Mary are going to give birth to a king. You Mary, who has not been with a man, are going to conceive. “Also, the Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.” Wow! Just in case you didn’t get it Mary, when I said, “He will be called the Son of the Highest,” let me say again, “He will be called the Son of God.” That is the first confirmation. The angel repeated for Mary the identity of her child.
God is good! He sent an angel to Joseph also. Now, if Mary is questioning her memory or her sanity, her plight is reconfirmed through Joseph. Then, there is her conversation and confirmation from her relative Elizabeth whose baby leaped for joy at the sound of Mary’s voice. Then, at her giving birth in Bethlehem, the shepherds arrive with a story of the child’s angelic announcement. When the shepherds left her, the scripture says, “And Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart.” (Luke 2:19).
When God gives us an impossible task, He confirms and reconfirms His plan for us. God was not finished with His work to assure Mary and remove any doubt she might have. Simeon, in the temple, takes the baby in his arms and praises God, “For my eyes have seen Your salvation.” The scripture adds, “And Joseph and His mother marveled at those things which were spoken of Him.” (Luke 2:33). Then there was the prophetess Anna giving thanks for the baby. Then, the wise men came with gifts for a king, followed by an angel warning. God is good!
Let me repeat what I began with. When God is at work to bring us to an understanding of His will for us, He always confirms His plan for us through various people and events. What plan of God for you has He been confirming for You? What work is He doing in you? Do not ignore those confirmations of His work and plan? When you see them, praise Him. God is good!
